Ever wondered how information on oxidative stress is relied from mitochondria to the cytosol?
In the recent paper from the Wang group, Li et al describe a novel oxidation – driven mechanism concerning the power houses of the cell, mitochondria, and linking oxidation of the protein shaping mitochondria membranes (dMIC60) with removal of mitochondria (mitophagy). The authors demonstrate that oxidation of dMIC60 and the resulting stabilization of dMIro impairs mitophagy in aging neurons of flies and cellular models of neurodegenerative diseases.
